Type of venue: Elegant restaurant/bar/club
Popular with the posh crowd.
Not popping off but popular.
That needs improvement
Summary: Valenok is the not-so-secret insider tip if you want high-end nightlife without breaking the bank. Just be aware that it's another one of those restaurant nightclubs and not "the real thing".
Where is Valenok in Moscow?
What kind of music do they play in Valenok?
Depends on the DJ but most of the time it will be electro/house/vocal house. Less tacky than at other venues and you can notice they make an effort to play more stylish music.
What kind of people go to Valenok and how is the vibe?
Valenok has established itself as another one of the places for Moscow’s “see and be seen” crowd. Don’t get intimidated by the flashy cars in front of its doors though, the face-control here is surprisingly easy for a place that targets the higher-end segment of Moscow nightlife.
Valenok has two floors and both are mostly packed with tables. The second floor rarely fills up and is for smaller groups that are there for food and chill drinks. The entire spot is actually more of a restaurant with a smallish dancefloor. The vibe is kind of “get some drinks here and head somewhere later”.
The crowd is mixed but not too young. You’ll get anything from early twenties to late thirties, both men and women (women are usually a bit younger). It’s more of a posh place but without exuding that strong “transactional” vibe that other bars and clubs have. It has the occasional tourist or expat and overall fills up quite nicely early in the night.
In summer, Valenok opens its veranda with more seating opportunities. Unlike other bars, it’s clearly meant for food and drinks and not for partying. Service is friendly and food is pretty tasty as well.
When should I go to Valenok?
Since it is more of a pre-party place, I would advise to go a bit earlier. People without tables usually move to the neighboring Motel or other places from 2am to 3am. Best visited on the weekend, but you can visit during the week as well, especially if you come for food and cocktails.
