CLOSED Motel Bar Moscow reviewed by Moscownightguide

Read the Moscownightguide review of Motel Bar Moscow. I cover all you need to know from a Moscow nightclub.

UPDATE: As of summer 2017 Motel is closed and seems to not be opening for the foreseeable future.

Where is the Motel Bar Moscow?

What kind of music do they play in Motel?

Loungier type of electro and house. The music, like everything in Motel, exudes a very chill and laid-back vibe. You can dance away or just enjoy a cocktail at the bar and you’ll always feel like the music hits the vibe of the place perfectly.

What kind of people go to Motel and how is the vibe?

The Motel Bar Moscow opened in 2015, so it is still rather new on Moscow’s nightlife map. But Motel has already managed to establish itself as one of the new cool and hip places to go to. The bar appeals across different styles and tastes: it pulls people from the neighboring Valenok and Buddha Bar, which both cater to a higher-end crowd. You’ll also find the crowd that used to frequent the Krasny Oktyabr area, young professionals and students from Moscow’s upper middle class. The club even draws people that you would expect at more underground places (some would call them hipsters).

The Motel Bar Moscow is located on three floors and styled after an American motel from the 60s. You will feel like you entered Don Draper’s stay, while he’s taking a business trip to the West coast. Old furniture, vintage-styled bars, hell they even have an entire bed in there (not for those purposes though, it’s right behind the DJ). Motel makes you want to wander around the bar and take pictures in almost every corner. If you take a tour around the Instagram accounts of Moscow’s females, you’ll see they are very successful with that.

There’s are not tables but the party still goes strong and quite long. Motel strikes a good balance between a chill and a dynamic vibe.

When should I go to Motel?

Some nights are slower, some are hotter, there is no general rule of thumb for the Motel Bar Moscow. Since it’s located to two other nightlife venues and has established a good reputation, you can expect people to turn up even at later hours of the night.

What's the dress code in this club?

Elegance level: mixed

It’s a pretty diverse place, so hard to give a strong recommendation here. Whichever style you rock, you should own it, look the best you can and you should be good. Overall you find more bohemian and trendy people here than in other clubs.

What are the prices like in this club?

Price level: standard

Moscow standard - Long Island 750 Rubles, Beer 350 Rubles. As mentioned, no bottle service here.

How is the energy in this club?

Energy level: mixed

Although Motel has a designated dance floor on one of its floors it is more a place for drinks at the bar and a intimate conversation.

So do you have any insider tips or recommendations for Motel?

  • I recommend doing a full tour if you're in that area: hit up Motel, Valenok and Buddha Bar all in one go, which are all seperated just a few hundred meters from each other, and see which one you like the most.

Why you should come to Motel Bar Moscow

Come if you want an old school party with a nice atmosphere that is unique in Moscow.
