Review of: Klava Bar Moscow

Type of venue: Popular "in" party bar

Elegance

Fancy without being uptight.

Prices

Normal "above average" prices.

Energy

Strong party vibe,

That's good

  • Very popular
  • Very "in" but not overly posh
  • Great energy

That needs improvement

  • Too popular for its own good and too crowded
  • Music makes no sense sometimes

Summary: Klava Bar is the main party place in the posher Patriarch ponds area. Great if you want to see "real Muscovites" actually partying without exaggerated flashing of wealth. Really small place though, which can get quite annoying.

Where is the Klava Bar Moscow?

What kind of music do they play in Klava?

The DJ is not Klava's strongest asset because the music can really be all over the place here. It's more often than not a strange mix between new-ish commercial songs, older commercial songs (think: 5-15 years old) and Russian pop. However, often there is no real flow to the music.

What kind of people go to Klava and how is the vibe?

Klava Bar is an institution in Moscow nightlife and has been open for over 10 years now. It is really not a club but a bar that people come to to party. It is really small and has only one bar and not more than a handful of tables but thanks to its strong reputation it's pretty much always packed. It's so full that in summer, but also in winter, about one third of the people are standing outside smoking or joining from one of the neighboring bars. The Patriarch Ponds area where Klava is located is one of Moscow's most popular for bars and cafes.

Most of the crowd is 25 and older and you can find anything from young professionals over creative types to self-proclaimed models. Almost all people in Klava are classic and born Muscovites with the occasional tourist in summer. It has a similar but still distinctly different feel to it than the regular posh clubs in Moscow. The alcohol flows a bit more freely here and you do not get people dancing on the tables in the usual high-end places.

When should I go to Klava?

As I mentioned, Klava Bar gets really packed between 1am-3am so it is better to come too early than too late. It is a bar and the crowd starts leaving between 3am and 4am.

What's the dress code in this bar?

Elegance level: above average

Klava is not as elegantor strict as other places. Still, come at least smart-casual, ladies are good with a pair of heels and a modern, fitting look.

What are the prices like in this bar?

Price level: above average

Cocktails are 700-800 Rubles, Bottle service starts at 3,000 Rubles per person.

How is the energy in this bar?

Energy level: high

The energy in Klava Bar is, despite the poor DJ'ing, always pretty high. If youdon't mind the music then you should have a great time here.

So do you have any insider tips or recommendations for Klava?

  • The bar is unnecessarily slow here because  of the amount of people. In summer you can get drinks at Keanu Bar next door and then dip in and out of Klava.

Why you should come to Klava Bar

Because it has the best energy out of all "typical Moscow" venues but still has a genuine feel to it.
